Is tracking your exercise ruining it?

The syncing saga.

Since taking up running/jogging several months ago, I have enjoyed mapping my runs, tracking my improved times, getting kudos from friends and sharing my couch to 5K achievements on social media.

Earlier this month after installed my Fitbit Charge 2 app update my problems with syncing began. When I pressed the run option I started receiving an error message  “Check the Fitbit app”. Then then a line drawn across the app on my screen.  This means the app tracker is not syncing with the app.img_1332-2.jpg

It’s so distracting, you have to stop, check that your tracker is connected to the Bluetooth, turn off your phone turn it back on again, check the Bluetooth again, start your music and press run and it still doesn’t work.  Suggestions from Fitbit Community Forum from many users that are experiencing that same problem, is to delete the app and reinstall it then restart your phone. This did work for one run, but not again. I am still waiting on a solution from the Helpdesk.

This brings me back to my original question, is this technology taking the enjoyment out of my running? Let me know what you think, I would also love to hear if anyone else is having the same problems and any other useful solution.

  1. Yes. I am questioning just how relevant it is at times. I have an older model ( no idea which), which I track my walking. I recently went overseas and was pleased to see I met my target around lunchtime each day. Great! However, no matter how hard I tried I was unable to get it to sync to local time for the whole trip. Over two different time zones this proved to be a bl##dy nuisance. Next time I will forego counting steps so I actually know what time it is!

    1. Leonie, that is hilarious, you had your priorities right though. Who needs to know what time it is on when you are on holidays as long as you meet your goals. Thanks for dropping by my blog.🏃🏻‍♀️
