Outside my window
Finally some action .. the 2 eggs have hatched.
These masked lapwings nest in the yard next door every year. Hopefully, their second attempt at parenthood this spring will have a better outcome. The earlier brood fell victim to the neighbor’s cat. Mr. takes parenting seriously starting work on the new family the day after the massacre.

How lucky to have them next door. They’re supposed to be common near me, but I’ve only ever secured 4 shots I think – 2 on the river near home and the other 2 in the Royal Botanic Gardens 🙂
I have a bit of a love hate relationship with them, especially in breeding season. I rarely get swooped my a magpie but a lapwing will cross a busy road to have a piece of me.
